Artist May-Britt Joyce of Cooperstown, New York, started drawing later in life, encouraged by her artist daughter. Although she always had creative ideas, as far back as book report covers (leather cut-out boots for Cowboy Boots and yarn braids for Pollyanna), expression with pen, charcoal pastel, acrylics or paint became new mediums to explore.
Cooperstown scenes are May-Britt's specialty. The Village, Otsego Lake and the surrounding countryside provide inspiration for much of her work. And for the past four years, she has painted a winter Cooperstown Parks scene for use as a seasonal greeting card by the local advocacy group Friends of the Parks. About her art she says, "I paint for fun -- bringing enjoyment to others is a bonus".
May-Britt has participated in Cooperstown Art Association shows since 2007, including the annual miniature show. She has been accepted to the Annual Regional Juried Art Show and Sale and by the Community of Fine Arts Juried Exhibition of Westlake, Ohio.
She has studied with well-known area artists Amy Cannon, Doug Jamieson, Lonni Sue Johnson, Susan Jones Kenyon, Ralph Murray, Mary Nolan, and Mary Anna Goetz of Woodstock, New York.
